REGISTRATION OPTIONS

We offer three forms of registration:

INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION

Use this option if you would like us to place you on a team for an entire season. Individuals, also known as free agents, could be recruited, assigned to an existing team, or be combined into a new team. Each player pays a registration fee.

GROUP REGISTRATION

This registration form is excellent for teams wanting to pay individually or friends wishing to play together but do not have an entire team. Groups with less than eight players may have free agents added to the team. Each player pays a registration fee when invited to join by their captain.

TEAM REGISTRATION

The player registering the team pays a single flat fee. Subsequent players do not pay when invited to join.

REGISTRATION PROCESS

All players are asked:

  • What is your unisex shirt size? XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL
  • Do you have any questions? We will respond with a message here in the OpenSports app.

Captains are asked:

  • What color would your team like the shirts to be? We will attempt to accommodate any color.
  • What dates would your team forfeit due to players being unavailable? We will attempt to schedule around those dates but offer no guarantees.

DETAILS

Every Thursday, there will be four (4) matches scheduled, the earliest beginning at 6:30 pm. Assuming the schedule holds, the last match will start at 9:30 pm. Qualified referees will officiate. Each team will pay the referee $15 per match.

GAMES

All games will play using All-Rally Scoring rules. There are no side outs and matches will consist of three (3) games. Each game will count in the overall standings for the regular season.

Matches will be played within the allotted time (Penalties for every 10 minutes a team is past the scheduled start time.) All games are played to 25, win by two, or first to 31. One time-out per game, per team, is allowed. In playoffs, games will be played as the best 2 out of 3 to 25 win by two or first to 31. One time-out per game is allowed. (In certain circumstances, games will be played, first to 25 when games are running behind schedule)

TEAM SIZE

Each team consists of 6 players on the court at one time (never more than four players on the court identifying as men or non-binary). If a team has four players with a minimum of 1 identifying as a woman, it will be considered a legal game. However, the opposing team will have the option to utilize the ghost rule, which means that when it comes time for the missing player(s) to serve, that team will lose the service, and a point is awarded to the opposing team. Teams may have as many players on their roster as they want. There is no maximum limit on the number of those identifying as females on the court at one time.

FORFEITS

Teams will forfeit one game every 10 minutes past the designated start time that they do not have the legal amount of players. If no players are present from a team by 15 minutes after the specified start time, the missing team will forfeit the entire match, and the team that is present will receive all three wins. (Exception: Teams with less than four players or without two identifying as women may still play a "legal" game but only with the opposing team's consent.) All teams that consent to play a legal game with less than the allowed minimum waive their right to a forfeit win. Teams may pick up players during the regular season to field a full team. A team that forfeits their match is charged with a $30 forfeit fee; $15 for your team's ref fees, $15 for the opponent.

GAME PLAY
  • A legal serve crosses the net and is either touched by an opposing player or lands within the opposing team's area of the court within the boundary lines.
  • The server may not step on or over the end line until the ball has been contacted. The width of the service area is from sideline to sideline. The depth of the service area is infinite.
  • No service tossing errors are allowed at the competitive level.
  • A defensive block does not count as one of the allowable contacts. A player may reach over the net to block a ball if any portion of the ball breaks the net plane.
  • You cannot block a set that does not cross the plane of the net to the other side.
  • The serve may not be blocked or spiked.
  • Players can return the serve by a bump pass, clapping their hands together, a closed fist, a set (AS LONG AS THE BALL IS NOT CAUGHT OR CARRIED)
  • No part of the body may touch the net at any time unless a ball or person driven into the net causes the contact. Player contact with the net in a manner not directly relating to or affecting the course of play is not a violation. Contact with hair or part of the uniform will not be considered a fault.
  • Contact of the ball when spiking is legal only if a portion of the ball is in contact with the net plane or on the spiker's side of the net. Spikers may follow through over the net after legal contact.
  • The ball must be cleanly hit when spiking with an open hand. Guiding or carrying is illegal.
  • A carry is any use of an open hand(s) while making contact with the ball that is not in a firm manner. If the ball sits in your hand at any time, it is a carry.
  • A player may touch but not completely cross over the center line with his/her foot.
  • The ball can contact any number of body parts down to and including the foot.
